Individual Art Therapy Sessions

There are many ways that you can benefit from individual art therapy sessions.  Areas that can be worked on are trauma, interpersonal conflicts, grief, loss, parenting skills, communication, anxiety, stress, depression, life-changes, illness, or dementia.  Confidentiality is of the highest priority.

People of many ages can benefit from art therapy.  I work with children 3 and up, as well as dyads with parents and children, or siblings.

Please inquire with any questions and to find out how art therapy may help you.

What is art therapy?

Art therapy is the use of art materials and art making to promote emotional, physical, spiritual and mental well-being. Art helps us express what may be too difficult to express in words.

Using art can allow us to express ourselves and to help us heal.

Do you need to be an artist?

No. Not at all.  No artistic experience is necessary.

All art materials will be provided.

What to expect

First you will attend an initial session to get to know each other and what you wish to work on. Confidentiality and its limitations and expectations will be discussed.

After the first session, each art therapy session will last 45 minutes.  During that time you will be presented with various art materials to use.

Jen (the art therapist) is there to help you understand how to use the materials and to assist you along your path.  After time is spent making art, you may or may not wish to discuss the work with Jen.

Depending on the nature of your healing path, Jen may or may not suggest activities for you to work on during session.  It is up to you if you wish to talk while making art.

Confidentiality

Jen Vivian maintains the standards of practice as outlined by the Canadian Art Therapy Association

"Art Therapists have a primary responsibility to respect client confidentiality and safeguard verbal and visual information about an individual or family that has been obtained in the course of their practice investigation or teaching. The overriding principle is that Art Therapists respect the confidences of the client(s)."
